Our Philosophy, Our Why
“In the end, we will conserve only what we love; we will, love only what we understand and we will understand only what we are taught and allowed to experience.”
- Baba Dioum, Senegalese conservationist
We have identified areas that hold special characteristics of our unique Barbadian landscape and biodiversity. Those areas must be conserved. Many of these places have been designated for conservation by the Physical Development Plan which has proposed several areas as Natural Heritage Conservation Areas and others as National Forest Sites. However, implementation has been limited and is urgently needed.

How We Do It

Land Facilitation
We are facilitators and connectors. We collaborate with land owners, the Government of Barbados and our communities to protect our natural and ecologically sensitive areas and to manage them.
Partnerships with the Government of Barbados
The Land Conservancy Barbados works directly with the Government of Barbados through its environmental ministries to collaborate on management and protection strategies for areas identified for conservation. Each area identified holds unique land ownership and ecosystem needs and requirements and as a result no one approach will work for all sites. our approach to each site will be specific.

Conservation Easements - Work with private landowners
We are facilitators and connectors. We collaborate with land owners, the Government of Barbados and our communities to protect our natural and ecologically sensitive areas and to manage them.
Livelihoods enhancement
In our activities, we ensure that the areas to be conserved will create livelihood opportunities and revenue so as to be self sustainable.
